Let’s talk about SCIENCE!
If you want people to listen to you, you need to make sure they have fun first!
Lizah’s workshops focus on the joy of science communication. They show how you can present your science in an entertaining and engaging way while sneaking in some difficult topics, based on their experience working on MinuteEarth and ‘xkcd’s What If?’.
Popular science communication
As a scientist you are trained to talk to other scientists. You are precise in the words you choose, detailed, and write for a highly specialized audience.
Then suddenly you are expected to talk to a general audience that wishes to be entertained, get a fast big picture story, and doesn’t know science jargon. We are -literally- not trained to do this!
In this lecture we show you how to re-frame your story to make it fun and accessible for a general audience.

Workshop: Make your own comic!
Comics have everything you want for popular science communication: Cute art, a main character that we can root for, and easy conversational language.
In this workshop everyone will make their own science comic - yes, everyone!
This workshop is created around a drawing exercise from the comics community where you follow a series of prompts. After completing the entire set you will have created a simple science comic with a story-arc.
The main goal of this workshop is to generate a sense of empowerment. Most people walk into this workshop claiming they cannot draw, or that they have never made a comic and don’t think they would be able to. They often surprise themselves with skills they didn’t know they had.
(2h-4h based on requests)
This workshop has been rated 5/5 by students at the Science Communication Summer school at Leiden University.
In depth: creating a video ready for social media.
Audience: a cohort looking for a specialised workshop series on science for social media.
The best way to learn is to create. In this workshop we will create a short video with phone applications and your preferred visual tools. We will go over the script, the visuals needed to support such a script and the practical tools to put it all together.
(8h, can be split into modules)
Let’s create something fun!
Whether you are looking for a short lecture that introduces people to the world of science communication, or looking for a workshop series where everyone creates a product - we can make it happen!
