I like poetry, long walks on the beach and taking apart little bacteria to see what they’re made of. My PhD-research at Leiden University was about the cell wall in Streptomyces, covering both the composition of the wall, and its role in antibiotic resistance. During my PhD, I enjoyed scientific communication and got the opportunity research at a few events, among which Fame Lab and Soul and Brains. Together with my friend Anne, I wrote scientific blogs for Wetenschap.nu, covering subjects like poop transplants and the 5-second rule. Currently, I’m working as a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology in Newcastle upon Tyne.
