Scientific Illustrations

A picture is worth a thousand words. That is especially true when we are talking about science. Scientific illustrations are highly essential to communicate research and complex concepts.

Popular Science illustrations

I like to make illustrations of my favourite bacteria and try to do so in a way that’s not per se funny or ‘geeky’. The world of microbiology is invisible, alien and beautiful. I enjoy showing bacteria and designs based on microorganisms as aesthetically pleasing and interesting pieces of art.

I mostly make flat, vector-style, illustrations that are easy to scale for powerpoints, posters and websites.

Journal cover

This cover accompanies an article describing the peptidoglycan structure of Streptomyces coelicolor. The illustration imagines Streptomyces colonies as a barbed-wire fence, showing a ‘Streptomyces wall’.
